Club History

The Henley and Grange RSL was formed in 1924 at a meeting held in the Henley Beach Town Hall. Meetings continued there for many years with the Memorial Room, known as the Silence Room' containing the WW1 Honour Roll, being in close proximity. The Great War was still fresh in local residents' minds and attendances were strong. But with other activities centred at the Town Hall, and the rise in RSL members after World War Two, they needed their own space and in 1947 moved to what was the Henley Kiosk (now the Thai Orchid, and Seamores) in Henley Square. The RSL in Henley Square operated on two floors, with the ground level (Thai Orchid) being the main bar and the top floor (Seamores) being the ball room. This was before the balconies on both levels were enclosed and the towers still remained. In 1974 the present RSL clubrooms were built on land owned by the Henley and Grange Council. This building has now been extended and renovated.

Over the years, the Henley and Grange RSL has grown and evolved to become a vital part of the local community. It has expanded its facilities and offerings to meet the changing needs of its members and the community. Today, the club is open to the public and serves as a gathering place for people of all ages and backgrounds. It offers a range of amenities, including a fully-stocked bar, dining facilities, and a range of recreational activities. The Henley and Grange RSL also hosts a variety of events and activities throughout the year, including live music, trivia nights, and social gatherings.

Despite its growth and evolution, the Henley and Grange RSL remains true to its roots and its commitment to supporting the well-being of its members and the community. It continues to honor the service and sacrifice of veterans and to provide a welcoming and supportive space for all who are a part of it.
